Hello again
Who I am, why I'm back to having my own site and what I'll write about here.
My first attempt at having my own site, back in December 2022, ended quickly. I built it with WordPress, published the classic “hello world” and a few days later the post was full of comments in Russian that nobody had asked for. I left it there and forgot about it.
This time I wanted to take it slowly and do it my way.
Who I am
I’m Manuel, a systems architect in Monterrey, Mexico. I started programming professionally in 2012, while I was still studying at UANL’s School of Physics and Mathematics, and I’ve spent most of my career building software for banking. If you want more detail, it’s in about me.
Why a site of my own
I wanted a place of my own to write, without depending on a social network or on a dashboard that needs constant patching. So this site is simple on purpose:
- Static pages: there’s no admin panel to attack.
- Comments with a confirmed email: every comment is confirmed from your inbox, and I review each person’s first comment before publishing it. Goodbye, Russian comments.
- No tracking cookies: visits are counted on my own server, without cookies and with the IP anonymized.
What I’ll write about
- What I learn building software: architecture, Java, Angular, databases and security.
- Open projects that help people, like a glucose meter I have in mind.
- And every now and then, ideas that aren’t about code: I consider myself a philosopher in the making.
